How to Pack Fragile Items Safely
Fragile items break when they can shift inside the box. The goal is a snug fit with proper cushioning on all sides.
Glassware and dishes
- Wrap each piece individually in packing paper or bubble wrap
- Stand plates vertically in small boxes, never flat in large stacks
- Fill empty space with crumpled paper so nothing rattles
- Mark boxes FRAGILE on every side
Electronics
- Use original boxes when possible
- Remove loose parts and bag cables with the device
- Add anti-static padding for screens and monitors
- Avoid storing electronics in hot garages or vehicles for long periods
Artwork and mirrors
- Tape an X across glass to limit shattering if impacted
- Use corner protectors and a flat picture box
- Keep artwork upright and secured between rigid surfaces
Pro tip
Pack a “first open” box with the items you will need immediately at the new home. That saves time and reduces stress on day one.
